Myth: Thatcher stole school milk from children
The Myth
Margaret Thatcher, as Education Secretary, deliberately stole milk from schoolchildren.
The Facts
The Labour government had already ended free school milk for secondary pupils in 1968. The 1971 change extended the existing cut to children aged 7 and over in primary schools, while preserving free milk for under-7s, and was a Treasury-led economy measure across the whole government — not a Thatcher initiative.
