Myth: Thatcher destroyed British manufacturing
The Myth
Margaret Thatcher's policies destroyed British manufacturing industry.
The Facts
Manufacturing output increased by 23% during her premiership. Manufacturing's share of GDP fell because services grew faster — but the absolute output of British manufacturers rose. Productivity per worker grew at one of the fastest rates in the OECD over the same period.
